Accepting Friend Requests

When someone requests to add you as a friend, you'll receive an email with the subject line, "Recipe Sharing Request from Plan to Eat."

You will also see a notification at the top of the My Recipes section in the app.

  1. From your Recipe Book, tap the My Recipes header.

  2. Navigate to the Friends page from this menu.

  3. Tap the 3-dot menu at the top right of the Friends page.

  4. Tap Accept to accept the friend request, or Ignore to not accept the request.

    • Use Accept All to accept all requests at once.

Once all requests have been managed, you will be redirected to the Friends section and able to see your newly accepted Friends in the list.

From the Friends section, use the 3-dot menu to view pending and ignored friend requests.

If a request was ignored, you can retroactively accept it by tapping on the View ignored friend request link.

Accessing Friend's Recipes

  1. From your Recipe Book, tap the My Recipes header.

  2. This will bring down a menu where you can navigate to the Friends section.

    • You can search for Friend's usernames from the search bar at the top.

  3. Tap on one of your Friend's usernames, you can view and search for recipes in their Recipe Book.

There are a few things to keep in mind when looking at your Friend's recipes:

1. You can only see Friend's recipes not marked Private.

Recipes marked private are only available to the "owner" of the recipe.

2. You can only see recipes that belong to your Friend.

You will not be able to see recipes in your Friend's account that they saved from another Friend.

3. You need to unlock the directions for Friend's recipes.

Unless the recipe was manually added by that person, you will need to unlock the recipe directions. Directions can be unlocked by visiting the original website the recipe was imported from. This step only needs to happen once and the directions will remain unlocked forever.

  1. Click on the link provided in the recipe directions section.

  2. Visit the original recipe website.

  3. The directions will be unlocked and visible in the recipe from then on.

This step ensures the original recipe author gets credit for their work in creating that recipe.

Note: If you share a recipe with a Friend and you have altered the directions or ingredients, your Friend will also see those changes.

To Save a Friend’s Recipe:

  1. Navigate to their Recipe Book.

  2. Tap on the grey heart icon next to the recipe name.

A recipe saved from a Friend’s account will be indicated with a red heart icon next to the recipe name. You can easily find the recipe by searching for it or scrolling through your Recipe Book.

To Un-Save a Recipe from your Recipe Book:

  1. Tap the red heart icon so it turns back to grey.

To Edit a Copy of your Friend's Recipe:

You can use recipes from your friends as if they're your own, but you will not be able to alter that recipe.

To edit a recipe that belongs to a Friend:

  1. Open the Friend's recipe you'd like to copy and edit.

  2. Tap the upper right 3-dot menu.

  3. Select Edit a Copy of This Recipe.

  4. A duplicate of the recipe will open in and edit window. Make any changes to the new duplicate recipe.

  5. Tap Save.

  6. That recipe is now added as a new recipe in your account.
