Plan to Eat works through software on your computer or device called a "browser". Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, are the most popular browsers, but there are many others. Each browser works slightly differently from one another, they behave differently on different devices and operating systems, and they are constantly changing with frequent upgrades. Because each browser is constantly changing you may run into a situation where Plan to Eat works fine in your browser one day, but not the next.
To compound the challenge of having software that works, each browser has "extensions" (sometimes referred to as "plugins" or "add-ons" depending on the browser). An extension is a small piece of software that plugs into your browser allowing it to do something that is customized to the way you want your browser to work. Most of these extensions are installed at your command, but they can be installed behind the scenes without you realizing it. You may have extensions running on your browser that you don't even know about. The problem with extensions is that they can break how the browser is designed to function, which causes problems when you are using websites like Plan to Eat. Extensions are often the cause of problems when something is working one day and mysteriously broken the next. Extensions can also be the culprit if you have a problem on one computer or browser and can't replicate it on another.
The process for troubleshooting this is to disable all extensions and see if the problem is fixed. If it is, you know that the problem is related to one of your extensions. From here you can add your extensions back one-at-a-time to narrow down which extension is causing the problem.
Managing your extensions will look different on different computers, but this will give you an idea of where to start:
Google Chrome (extensions)
- Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar
- Select More Tools
- Select Extensions
Apple Safari (extensions)
- Select Safari > Preferences
- Click on the Extensions tab
- Click the menu on the browser toolbar
- Select Add-ons to bring up the page to manage your Add-ons
- Follow the prompts to activate and deactivate individual Add-ons
Internet Explorer (add-ons)
- Click the Tools button , and then click Manage add-ons.
- This will open a list of all add-ons running in this browser.
- Click on any one add-on to view the details of that add-on. You can disable it by pressing the "Disable" button at the bottom of the window.
- When you're finished, click Close.
