Recipes from personal cookbooks, magazines, or photos, can be imported into your Plan to Eat account using your mobile device's native scanning abilities.

iOS Live Text (version 15 or later):

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Find a recipe image you would like to convert to digital text.
  3. Tap and hold the text to select, then drag the ends of the selection tool to highlight the text you want to copy.
  4. Select Copy from the contextual popup menu.
  5. Switch to an open recipe card in the Plan to Eat app, tap and hold your finger in the appropriate section, then select Paste from the popup menu.

You can also import directly from a printed recipe without taking a photo:

  1. In the Recipe Book, tap Add Recipe and select Add by Hand option. 
  2. Select the Bulk Input option in the Ingredients section.
  3. Press and hold inside the bulk input box until the Apple text options appear, then select the Autofill or text scanner option. 
    • For iOS 17+, tap twice inside the input field and choose Auto-Fill, then choose Scan Text.
  4. Hover your device camera over the recipe to select text to scan into the ingredients section and tap the blue insert button.
  5. Repeat the scanning process for all the ingredients and direction steps.

Android Google Photos:

  1. Open the Google Photos app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Find a recipe image you would like to convert to digital text.
  3. Tap on Copy Text from Image at the bottom. 
    • If it doesn't appear, use Google Lens
  4. Tap and hold the text to select it.
  5. Click on Copy Text to copy the text to your clipboard.
  6. Switch to an open recipe card in the Plan to Eat app, tap and hold your finger in the appropriate section, then select Paste from the popup menu.

 You can paste in an entire block of ingredients by switching the Ingredient section to Bulk Input.
